Thanks for posting Revhead! That's a great article -- we need to catch up next time we're in Melb!! Now I'm being nitpicky here, but I wondered about your statement: "Gradually close down all the outreach programmes ‘we’ve always run’." Only because it is such a blanket statement. It is the first line after the subheading "become contextual". I wonder if it could ever be contexually relevant to run a program?
"Gradually close down all the outreach programmes ‘we’ve always run’."
Maybe not so clear - Its those programmes "we've always run", that we assume need to keep being run that need evaluating. Eventually, good programmes become neccesary activities that need to be run just because of the memory of their effectiveness.
These programmes take up time and energy and that make us feel we are achieving something - but they have run past their use by date and the accumulated time and enery means we don't try anything new or relational.
Yes I think programmes have their place, but always ask yourself, can this be done informally; can it be done with another agency; is there a sunset clause built in; is it diminishing the time for relationship with the 'clients'?
Steve Chat just sent me something you wrote for the Witness. Fantastically disturbing confronting and challenging. Thanks for writing it. Close for a month Marty. Ironically I have been think about doing 40 days of purpose- I have struggled with it- but to try and create an environment/momentum for Christian to taste small community. At the end of it we might just not have church for a month and get the small groups that start to submit what they would do for four weeks of “no Sunday church” maybe we should join forces.
Love your heart mate; be encouraged in your authentic journey.
Re you challenge of re entering the narrative, been read a lot of ACTS lately. The words that come from reading it were, Power, Confidence and Authenticity. Were is the Power of God today…that’s what drew people, that and the confidence in new Christians as they lead Authentic faith that God could meet the needs. Theirs and those they encounterd.
Awww! Our famous Revvy! I'll download it and have a read.
ReplyDelete"Give it up all you Youth Pastors"...I love it! Have you had any feedback?
